Student Leadership

wellbeing

through leadership

A sense of connection to school is associated with positive health and academic outcomes and has been linked to positive social and emotional wellbeing. Student wellbeing is taken very seriously at Edinburgh College. We will continue to strengthen our student's wellbeing by observing, listening and reviewing our current practices and policies.

Peer Support

Beginning in the Early Learning Centre, Edinburgh College students are provided with an older peer. This peer mentor strategy assists younger students with learning, finding their way around campus and someone to simply ask questions of around campus. Additionally, this is a fantastic leadership opportunity for our older students, building confidence, teaching and mentorship skills.

Vertical and Horizontal Homerooms

In Secondary, vertical and horizontal homerooms support the inter-connectedness and wellbeing of our Secondary students. Horizontal homerooms are a chance for year-level peers to connect. Vertical home rooms are made up of students from all year levels and are facilitated by Ambit leaders in Year 11 & 12. The mission of these leaders is to develop ways to support and include younger students.

House Captains

A House Captain assists with organising and conducting House assemblies and activities. They are also responsible for organising and motivating students to participate in House activities. House points are awarded for PB4L values, participation and sportsman-like spirit.

School + Vice Captains

School Captains and Vice Captains are chosen by peers after a brave presentation where potential leaders sell their strengths, passions and vision for the school. Our Captains then work together to oversee the school's spiritual, social and fundraising opportunities.

Sustainability Captains

In Primary, Sustainability Captains are students elected who are interested in improving our school environment through different actions and initiatives. These initiatives include the promotion of Earth Hour, World Environment Day and informative material to promote environmental responsibility. The Nude Food initiative (rubbish-free lunches) has been a passion area for many sustainability captains. The captains meet regularly under the guidance of a teacher mentor to discuss, plan and organise initiatives that support environmental sustainability.
